I was fortunate to be involved in the first year of this curriculum, thereby having a great deal of influence in it's shaping.   Focused Instruction is developed from state/national standards.  

We created the 4 "Units" as the core learning activities that are used to learn about music.  Those 4 "Units" remain the same for all grades.  The content within those activities changes from grade to grade. This curriculum is to be implemented across the District, with each "unit" being taught concurrently with others.
