Hello From the Principal's Office!
My name is Laurie Lamberty, and I have been the principal of Whittier International School since July of 2018. I am both honored and humbled to be a part of this amazing community.
I have been part of Minneapolis Public Schools since 1989, and began my teaching career at Sheridan Elementary as a 6th grade teacher. Over the course of my career I have been a classroom teacher in elementary and middle school, and have been a teacher leader as a mentor and as and IB coordinator. Whittier is my third school, having spent 9 years at Sheridan and 15 at Northeast Middle. I am passionate about the IB programs and the promises they hold for our children ensuring rigorous programs of study and a commitment to languages and the arts.
My husband and I are almost empty nesters, and enjoy spending time entertaining family and friends, golfing, and finding quiet time at the cabin with our two dogs. We are exceptionally proud of our four children as they find their way in adult life and begin to build their own careers.
As a leader, I believe in building capacity and fostering a distributive leadership model that encourages the voices of all stakeholders. I also believe that the most important part of my job is to be in classrooms supporting high quality core instruction to ensure that our children are prepared for rigorous work in middle and high school.
My door is always open, so please do not hesitate to reach out and connect.
In Partnership,
Laurie Lamberty
