Hello!  My name is Mary Daub and I am the bilingual/bicultural teacher for the second grade team.  I have been teaching here at Whittier since the Fall of 2000 with the exception of two years when I taught 2nd grade in Nassau, The Bahamas and ESL at Roosevelt High School.

I earned my Bachelor's degree in Spanish at the University of Minnesota in 1998.  After graduating from the U of M, I moved to Madrid, Spain for a year to experience first-hand what it was like to live in a Spanish-speaking country.  I found myself fascinated by how people acquire a second langauge and returned home to pursue my Master's Degree in Second Languages and Cultures at the University of MInnesota-Minneapolis.  I graduated from this program in 2000 with a ESL and Spanish teaching license.  Once I entered the teaching profession in MInneapolis, I saw the value of having a Bilingual/Bicultural license.  I returned to school, this time at Hamline University and in the summer of 2005, I earned my Bilingual/Bicultural and Elementary Education licenses.

I love the excitement second graders bring to their learning!  I am especially passionate about helping childen find their strengths as learners and helping them become caring inquirers and thinkers.  I am so happy to be teaching at a school that has an international focus and values the diversity that our students bring to the clasroom each day!
