PTA-Sponsored Programs & Events

Volunteers are always needed! If you'd like to help, please contact the Whittier PTA.

A primary function of the Whittier International PTA is to support school programs and events that celebrate the diversity of our community, enrich the learning environment for our students, and promote healthful living and wellness. Programs and events that we love and that help make Whittier such an amazing place for kids to learn.

School Programs Supported by the PTA

MacPhail-Whittier Music PartnershipA partnership since the 1998-1999 school year! MacPhail brings premier musical and instrumental instruction to our K-5 students.

Amity Internship: The PTA contracts Amity Institute to provide an Amity Intern each school year. The Amity Intern assigned to Whittier assists with world language instruction and supports the heritage language program. For information on the Amity Internship program at Whittier and to meet this year's intern, check out the Amity Intership page. Each school year we need at least two families to host the Amity Intern. If you are interested in hosting, please contact the Whittier PTA.

Additional Programs: Over the years, the PTA has provided volunteers, seed money, and logistical support to various school programs. Examples of programs supported by the PTA in one way or another in recent years include:

School Events Supported by the PTA

Community Breakfast: Twice each school year, once in the fall (Sept-Oct) and once in the spring (May), the PTA works with our generous community partner, Common Roots Cafe, to provide a free breakfast for all Whittier families, students, staff, and teachers. Voluntary donations support PTA -funded activities at Whittier.

Scholastic Book Fair: The Scholastic Book Fair is typically run in the fall. Money raised through the book fair is used to supply new books to the Media Center and to grade-level classrooms.

Read-A-Thon: The Read-A-Thon is an annual, school-wide event focused on promoting reading among all students and raising money for our school and programs. The Read-A-Thon typically runs for 3 weeks during February.

Plant Sale: The annual plant sale runs each spring in May. Sale dates are the Thursday and Friday before Mother's Day. The PTA partners with Glacial Ridge Growers, a local nursery that grows exclusively pollinator-friendly plants, to provide a wide variety of perennials, annuals, herbs, and veggies for purchase. 50% of the purchase price goes directly to the PTA to support school-wide events and programs.
