Whittier International has been an Art Buddies partner school since 1997. Art Buddies mentors help kids discover their creative abilities while building confidence and big dreams. Whittier 3-5 grade students can participate in the Art Buddies program through Whittier's after-school programming. To provide arts access to children from low-income families, the Art Buddies classes are offered for free.
Each after-school session, Art Buddies work one-on-one with students on an art project. Buddies are creative volunteers with skills in all sorts of exciting art fields, including: advertising, graphic and interior design, film production, commercial photography, illustration, public relations, web design, and arhitecture.
The culminating event for the Art Buddies experience at Whittier is the bi-annual Art Buddies Parade. The photo slideshow below is from a recent Art Buddies Parade. In this particular Art Buddies session, students explored their "Career Dreams" as their joint arts experience. In the parade, students shared their career costumes with the entire school.
Whittier's partnership with Art Buddies is coordinated by Ms. Bennett. For information on registering for Art Buddies, contact our Community Ed coordinator, Jeff Carlson or visit the Community Ed page for a current after-school program registration form.
