High 5 Frequently Asked Questions

*Can my child ride the bus? Depending on Whittier’s bus zones and routes and your address, your child may be able to ride a bus. Transportation will be contacting you in the month of August regarding bussing. Once school begins, any bus changes can take up to 2-3 weeks to be realized. For the AM in-person class, they will be at a Community Stop with older kids coming to Whittier. On the way home at 12:30, your child will be with only other High Five students and will be dropped off door-to-door. PLEASE NOTE: For the safety of our High Five students, each student should have an adult at their bus stop at drop off and pick up time. Parents should go with their High 5 student to their bus stops to help the child feel safe and learn their bus stop locations. Again, this is for the safety of your child.

*What does my child need for school supplies? Your child needs to bring a backpack labeled with their name. This backpack should be large enough to fit a school folder and papers, artwork, and winter clothing such as snow pants and shoes. If you do not have access to a backpack, tell your child’s teacher and your child will be given a backpack.

*Does my child have to be potty trained? Yes! We have a bathroom in our classroom for our students. Teachers are not allowed to help with wiping or change pull-ups or diapers. ALL children should bring an extra set of clothing to keep at school in case of accidents or spills. All children should be wearing underwear to school. No pull-ups or diapers, please. If you have more questions regarding this policy, please see Mrs. Kristin or Mrs. Tazia.

*Do children go outdoors in the winter? Yes! We try to get outdoors at least 2 times per week for 20 minutes or more on nice days. In the winter, children will need snow pants, snow boots, hat, warm mittens, warm jacket. If you need any of these items, please see the teachers or social work team.

Thank you!
