Class offerings for Fall Quarter 2005

 

 

African Dance & Rhythm: What is life without music? Use creative movement to explore music and dance from West Africa. Students will play instruments and learn traditional dances. Sign up for one day per week. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Tuesdays and Thursdays with Francis Kofi and Felicia Adeti.

Basketball Fundamentals: Learn the rules of the game and develop the fundamental skills needed to play basketball with an experienced and certified coach. 4th and 5th grades. Thursdays with Thomas Stockhaus.

Crazy Cool Comics: Do you like reading comic books? Here is your chance to make your own! We will read different cartoons, comic strips and comic books and look at the many different styles of their creators. You will be challenged to find your own artistic style, create characters and write a story. In the end, you will get to take home your very own comic book or comic strip! 4th and 5th grades. Thursdays with Sarah Kennon and Lucy Dinsmore.

Digital Photography: Students will take photos with digital cameras and write about their photos as they keep a photographic and written journal of daily activities. They will also look at, read about and discuss the work of other photographers. 4th and 5th grades on Tuesdays; 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades on Thursdays. Both with Usry Alleyne.

Latin Dance: Learn to dance, move and have fun with an experienced Latin Dance teacher from Intermedia Arts. Sign up for one day per week. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Monday and Wednesday. Both with Melisa Riviere.

Hooked on Yoga: We will learn Yoga, a great way to great health. Yoga is simple, easy and anyone can do it to improve their strength, flexibility, balance, concentration and benefit their heart and lungs. 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Wednesdays with Daphne Bodene.

Krafty Kids: Join us as we make fun craft projects with beads, paper, paint, string and ...who knows?! All our crafts will be based on stories we read together. We will learn about patterns and colors, as well as work on our reading and listening skills — and have a whole lot of fun at the same time. 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades. Tuesdays with Sarah Kennon and Samantha Scott. ?

Math Games: We will make math fun by playing mathematical games and we will make math come alive as we use the math curricula supplied by the School District. Sign up for one day per week. 2nd and 3rd grades on Wednesdays and Thursdays; 4th and 5th grades on Mondays and Tuesdays. All with Maria Singh. ?

Passport Pals: Do you want to learn more about other countries? Do you have something fun to share from your own culture? In this class we will be playing games and making crafts from around the world as we learn about interesting people and places. We will find out how to say a few simple words in different languages and we might even get to taste food from across the globe! 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades. Wednesdays with Jenny Lock and Samantha Scott. ?

TaeKwonDo: Taekwondo is the ancient Korean art of self-defense using hands and feet. Classes stress total fitness, balance, coordination, concentration, respect, discipline, confidence, self-defense and fun. Students will acquire the basic skills necessary to achieve these qualities and more, including leadership. Classes are taught by an instructor certified by the North American Taekwondo Federation and students need no prior experience. Sign up for one day per week. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Mondays and Tuesdays with John Lindquist.

The Write STuff: Do you like reading? Do you want to become a better writer? Join our class and create your own stories, correspond with a pen pal and learn how to keep a journal for your thoughts. We’ll learn to use cool new words and become better readers and writers in the process. 4th and 5th grades. Mondays with Samantha Scott and Lucy Dinsmore. ?

Visual Arts: Explore a variety of art forms in this fun and interesting class. 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades on Wednesdays; 4th and 5th grades on Mondays. Both with Pearl Madryga.

WORD WizardS: Words are all around us! In this class, we will practice our reading and writing skills while looking at all the wonderful ways words are used in our world, such as in stories, signs, and notes and letters. We will have fun reading books, exploring our community, and using our imaginations.. 1st grade. Mondays with Amanda Hane. ?
