I became a teacher to help kids to learn to succeed. The tool that I use is Music. I believe that all children can succeed and that if I teach them how to learn, that they can achieve anything that they want to in life.
My career began as a student at Houghton College in upstate NY. I was studying pre-med, but my love of music took over and I changed to Music Ed. From there, I transferred to the University of Minnesota where I graduated with a B.S. in Music Education. After my first few years of teaching, I took courses at University of St. Thomas, working towards additional licenses and almost finished a Masters in Music. IT was a strong interest of mine, so I graduated with a Masters in Software Systems from University of St. Thomas.
Whittier has been my home since it opened in 1997. Prior to that, I taught Classroom Music at Powderhorn and High School Band and Choir in Silver Valley Unified School District in California. The best way to contact me is by email: kbennett@mpls.k12.mn.us
